Meredith & Patrick

The Frick Wedding Perfection in Pittsburgh

“This one might be my favorite ever,” my internal dialogue lately after I finish each wedding gallery and send it off. Key word being lately, because as an artist it can be a frustrating ebb and flow of devastating self-critique. But at this moment in my career, it feels like I’m closing the gap between what I envision and hope to achieve at each wedding with what I actually accomplish. It’s exciting. And a super nice feeling to be proud of your work. In particular, I couldn’t be more proud of the moments and portraits I captured for Meredith & Patrick’s wedding.

I was helped along by a truly gorgeous venue and beautiful details. The pastel blues & greens of the unique bridesmaid dresses were a wonderful complement to The Frick’s greenery and the neutral palette of the surrounding limestone architecture and sailcloth reception tent. And the light that September day was straight magic. It danced off the greenhouse and tent, painted warmth to the highlights, and all the while allowed the shadows to absorb the subtle green tint of the surrounding gardens:

And then there were the candid moments. They’re the gold us wedding photographers are digging for like long-bearded prospectors, as it’s in those interactions that I’m able to capture who you are. It’s the little glance during a big moment or the comedic timing in another. My favorite wedding party image from Meredith & Patrick is the one up top, where the untimely and fleeting bawling of their nephew gifted everyone a truly genuine laugh and smile. It’s now an image of a memory, with an emotion that can be relived; something unlikely if all the kiddos were perfectly behaved. And I think this is at the core of what good documentary and wedding photography does. Below is a small selection of my favorite images from the day.
